    Bison Hide Ideas

I have a Bison hunt coming up next week in NM. For those that have hunted them before, did you do anything with the excess hide not used in the shoulder mount? I was thinking about having belts made for the family to commemorate the hunt.

    Just looking for ideas.

    Thanks

    Brian

I kept my "backhide" and turned it into a rug in my office.

Brian, I could not post pics to your PM. The bison backhide rug is 6.5 feet wide.....and just as soft as my black bear rug.

My backhide is at the tannery and plan to use it as a rug too.

Good luck to ya Brian. I've never hunted them so I'm no help. I hope you get a good one.

Thanks for the photos, I like the rug. Would be a lot easier than trying to make a bunch of belts most wont wear...lol

Land rover nice tank. I have a two big ones myself.

The tanning process and shaving that takes place for taxidermy/rugging projects is completely different than making leather for belts and such... Most taxidermy tanneries do not use the processes reguired to make saddle/belt leather.. Make a rug with the back hide.
