Usually it's over within seconds. Most folks never use a tracking dog in there entire life. Just saying, all these threads are kind of misrepresenting the kind of bowhunting I know. Some folks might look at this and say oh, so bowhunting is about sticking an arrow in an animal, waiting 40 minutes, and then calling a tracking dog to find the wounded animal. That's not how it works, if you hit'em where you're supposed to(NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE - I know we all have made bad shot's), but there has been way to many of these threads lately.

    Teach me oh knowledgeable one.

These threads don't represent all kills, but it can be related to by all hunters. The highs and lows of bow hunting need to be known by people trying to get into it. The goal is the ethical shot that kills the deer in seconds, but when you make a less than perfect shot you need to know what to do. These threads do have value. If a non-hunter is on TBH, and gets their feelings hurt they can go get back on Facebook!

You worked as hard as could be expected to harvest the deer.

Congratulations on the baby, and thank you for sharing your experience. It was a riveting thread, that had an unfortunate end. I don't think you could have done more.

BTW....I'd also like to thank the dog owner that arrived to help.

Greenscreen people are the best people. IMHO

This is so true. And it was me climbing up the side of a steep, rocky hillside (through rattlesnake country) to get a signal to where I could reach in my wallet for the sticky note I saved about 4 months ago with the two dog trackers from the wounded animal tracking list posted on TBH, that lead me to search for one of them. That guy could not make it, but he knew a guy in San Angelo and that guy called. And then that guy saw his first dog wasn't having the best day, so he drove BACK to San Angelo and back to the lease, which took an hour 45 minutes, just to help.

Kuddos to the dog tracker. Highly recommend him. I have his card in my truck.

You seemed to be the only one with hurt feelings...

Sucks that you didn’t get him OP. It’s the lowest of lows when you lose one. Keep at it though. It makes it all the better when you do succeed

I agree with this, I understand there's some new guy's out there just getting into the sport, and this sort of thing happens from time to time.(with everyone). Let's make it as educational as possible. Was the type of broadhead ever mentioned?

I know everyone has there opinion on things, but here's some of mine.

-Shoot the biggest broadhead you can accurately out of your setup(I prefer a large cut mechanical broadhead. NAP makes some awesome big cut mechanicals to choose from. I personally think Rage sucks.
-Have your bow tuned by a professional
-Aim low, deer tend to react at the sound of your shot and drop as they load up to run away(ducking the arrow). Aim top of the heart.(and take broadside shots)
-Silence your bow, or choose the most quiet bow you can when choosing your equipment
-Learn to read the body language of the deer before you take the shot, trying to only take shot's at calm animals that are less likely to react to the sound of your shot.
-Shoot a big flipp'n broadhead, it can save your butt on a marginal shot if it happens to occur. NAP Spitfire Maxx are great and very underrated. Much better head then the Killzone in my opinion.
-Hunt the right wind, and hang your tree stands high
-Hunt over hand scattered corn vs. a feeder if you can.(if you plan to hunt over corn)
-I don't know squat about crossbows.
-A whole bunch else will come with experience
