    Electric golf cart question

So I’ve seen a. Few people say they run 48V on a 36V on their electric carts and get great performance.

That being said I have a older club car 48V cart that will likely need new batteries soon and was wondering how it would do if I ran 72V (6x12V batteries). It has plenty of torque at 48V but it’s slow.

Would there be any other parts that would need to be changed out to do that or just batteries assuming it would work?

On the older carts from the 90s I know you can step the voltage from 36 to 48
but to go from 48 to 72 I don't know . The charging would be different .I don't
think the speed is going to change much but you can change the gearing in the differential
    to get more speed

Have you considered a lithium battery pack. Ups your voltage to around 58 volts and the cart looses about 300lbs with lithium versus lead acid batteries. DRT (Gary) and I have been running lithium packs since this spring. He has an older 48v Club Car and I have a 48v EZGo. Wish I had gone lithium sooner.

I would look into a lithium pack as well. They are saying the battery life is ten years and I think they charge in a little over an hour, but could be wrong. Charge time is definitely a lot less and the distance more than doubles.

          I’ve considered lithium as well.

I’m scared to ask the price though.

          Where can I find them?

Did you have to do anything controller wise going up 10 volts?

My setup did not require any changes except a new charger. Using same controller.

You can do a complete setup of lithium for a little more than quality lead acid batteries ($1000-1500). Go over to Buggies Gone Wild dot com and do some research. You can save a lot of money doing it yourself or buying from a few that assemble lithium packs.

Just find yourself an older 36 volt club car motor and drop it in there. More speed and torque and bolts right up.

In my limited time with my cart, lithium has been something I’ve looked at. Seen a few cases where people have used Nissan Leaf battery packs.

I already have a 10hp high torque motor in it. Power isn’t a problem. It’s not fast, about 15mph tops.

But if it could get traction it would climb a vertical wall with a load strapped to it.

I thought you were wanting more speed. An old 36 volt motor will get you both.

More speed and longer battery life would be nice. But I don’t want to give up the torque of it.

So if you overdrive a 36V motor with 48V, does it have any long term damage to the motor?
