    Engine Overheat troubleshoot question

I have a 2015 F250 6.2 gasser. While ago sitting in the Grocery store parking lot, idling, the message center said “engine overtemp” and shut down. Coolant level is fine, nothing smelled hot. It won’t even try to start—totally dead—bot even a click. When I turn on the key it gives the same message, in addition to “engine start fault” and displays a wrench. Anybody out there dealt with this? How do I diagnose/fix it?

Try to cycle the key a few times maybe it will reset

Some around that year are bad about the Dgas (coolant tank) bottle leaking. They also like to leak from the heater hoses on the passenger side.

No real help other than maybe pull battery cable off and see if it will reset.

Let it sit. Pull the battery cables off and let it reset check the water level and goggle is your friend

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried pulling the battery cable to reset when it first happened, but that didn’t help. The coolant level is where it is supposed to be. However, I went out a few minutes ago to try cycling the key, and the first time I turned the key the messages were gone and it started right up.

                Could be bad sensor

If it is fairly inexpensive to replace (ie you can do it) I would try that first.

When is the last time you had the cooling system flushed?

                Thermostat could be sticking too

That would be my first three suspects

Plus possible fan clutch. Wont notice if you are going down the road. Stopped idling with the ac on it usually lets you know.

Run by autozone and have them check for codes. If you find one it will help narrow down the problem.

I had a 99 Powerstroke that started over heating

Water pump had been replaced about 6mos prior.

Spent a bunch having radiator cleaned, new thermostat and every other thing I could think of
(I did all the labor myself)
Finally pulled water pump and impellar fell out on ground
Last time I ever bought anything rebuilt

There are just a few things that can cause this....bad thermostat, bad water pump, bad relay.....
