    What type of Blood

Shot a doe around 6:45. Waited 3 hours to track. Blood trail was good initially. Then went to drops. Occasionally there would be a good bit of blood then back to drops. Ended up finding my arrow about 200 yards in and jumped her. This is the blood I found where she was laid. I have backed out now since around 10. What are yalls thoughts.

Maybe low or forward shot to me. Good luck on the track.

Probably wouldn't have that much blood with a gut hit. A lung or liver hit she should have been dead after 3 hours. Maybe brisket or leg and hopefully she makes it.

Could you tell where you hit at all?

Looked like I should’ve hit lungs to me but might’ve been a little far back. She was taking a step just as soon as I released.

Go back to the exact shot location and look for hair laying on the ground that was cut on both entry and exit (if you got at least a partial passthru on exit). The color and texture will give clues on where you hit. I'm guessing a non-vital shot that would indicate that you should keep tracking and pushing the deer to prevent the wounds from clotting up and not leaving a trail (assuming you have room before you reach a property line). What did the blood smell like? Was it greasy or have any visible bubbles?

Went back in. Blood is really rich red. Is greasy. Found the direction she went in and couldn’t tell anymore. Was so thick I was having to army crawl. Didn’t sound like she ran far but can’t see a thing or any blood. First one I’ve lost. Will look again in the morning.

Greasy rich red blood is usually indicates a liver hit, which can take a while to bleed out if you only get a nick on it, but it will be fatal. I'm betting you'll find it not far from where you last saw blood.

Looks and sounds like liver to me.

3 hours may not be enough on liver. Just depends on the deer. About 10 years ago I liver shot a buck and he died within 75 yds w/ a great blood trail right to him. About 4 years ago I shot a buck, 100% liver shot, and lost the trail. Brought in dogs and he was still alive over 7 hrs later. He was too weak to get up but he was still alive.

I agree with Liver. 3 hours is not long enough for a liver shot. Was your arrow absolutely drenched with blood?

Looks like you clipped one lung only.

It happens sorry for the disappointment that comes with the territory. Better luck next shot.

From what you described it sounds like you hit liver. Go look around all nearby water sources. They can go pretty far on a liver hit but it will kill them eventually. Good luck and let us know what you find.
