Well I’ve found the arrow with decent blood and about 8” of penetration. Didn’t break off it came out intact. Found one area of blood on a trail another 20 yards away but it’s so dang thick in here it’s hard to find anything. Calling a tracking dog in now

Good deal. Hopefully that arrow worked him over while inside. Don't be discourage about lack of blood. Your not going to have much with no exit.

At what height did you hit him? In the shoulder blade with the arrow angling back sounds like he is dead to me unless you hit him above the spine.

If your below the spine he probably didn't go far.

I hope you get the dog quickly and get a good dog, don't walk around and mess up the scent for the dog...in this heat the scent will leave quick and the dog will wear down fast...

good luck on the search! sounds like you made the right calls in trying to track him down. dont want to push him to an area you cant search. i bet he is laid up dead in that super thick stuff you said he ran towards
