Getting ready

I was up late last night getting ready for the upcoming season. Going thru my pack, checking batteries, cleaning stuff etc. I really enjoy the "getting ready". Do ya'll? Come on Saturday. "Good luck and hold on em'' as a good friend of mine always says.

I have friends like that. They enjoy the talking about it, planning, getting ready, checking gear.....etc. However, when it comes time to actually get in the woods and hunt, they always seem to have “life” happen and can’t make it. I’d give anything for a solid hunting buddy that didn’t always have an excuse when it comes time to start “gettin it done”.

Is anyone going to the Old Sabine Bottom WMA this weekend? This is my first time hunting, don't really know anyone that hunts. If anyone is interested in showing an old dog new tricks, that would be great. Pointers are welcome as well.

Yeah, I can’t wait, this will be my first season with a bow since I was like 12. 40 years later...
I was out checking a feeder and camera today and decided to stay for the evening to see if I could get a hog while here...

I live in N TX but hunt OK too.

I’m with you on this. I like the getting ready just as much as the hunt. I’m always messing with something hunting related during the off-season.

OP, I used to be the same way. Now with a family of my own, and demanding shift work schedule, I don’t get the time to enjoy preparation anymore. It’s more of a rush trying to get things ready for the season. Other things like kids activities have made me realize I like doing the Dad thing as much or more as prepping for hunting. Although, my son loves to hunt and killed his first deer last year, so maybe preparation and whatnot will become more exciting for me in the future.
