    Fathers Army info.

My sister and I are trying to get some more specific info on our fathers Army service. I’d just like to know what he did, unit, awards (I’d like to build a shadow box with his ribbons). She got this form VA. Can anyone shed some light on what this means.

    Service # RA
Specialty # and title 71H40 & PERS SP
    Rank SSG
    Selective service #

I took the service ra number off and selective service off. Not sure if I needed to. He’s passed away in 1976 so don’t think there is much you can do with the numbers

Getting access to military records can help with veterans benefits, ancestry research, and more. Learn how to get your own records or someone else's.

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) does not issue service medals; that is a function of each military service department. Requests for the issuance or replacement of military service medals, decorations and awards should be directed to the specific branch of the military in which the veteran served. However, for cases involving Air Force and Army personnel (click here for exceptions), the NPRC will verify the awards to which a veteran is entitled and forward the request along with the records verification to the appropriate service department for issuance of the medals.
