Had a coyote walk out into my sendero one morning at about 100yd and started to walk away from me down the road. I put 120gr in his "exit hole" and he was DRT
I think that’s another piece of advice that can be taken wrong. If a deer is quartering away with the off leg back and you aim so that the exit is behind the first joint you will only get one lung. In that same situation, near leg forward and off leg back, my exit would be in front of the shoulder.
As a fellow that owned a hunting ranch and has a tracking dog, I concur with straight up the leg. More especially on hogs. I have spent countless hours chasing critters that were shot “Right behind the shoulder”
Straight up the leg most fall within sight
