Any adventure racers in the TBH ranks? (adventure racing is kind of like a off road triathlon)

If you've ever been to the annual Granger Ranger Extreme Hunt and chased pigs through the swamp and blood weeds, you've been in an "Adventure Race"...
Seriously though, I haven't done one, but always wanted to. I have a lot of respect for the athletes that do them. To me, their much more exicting to watch than a track meet.

you bet.
anything from 2 hour sprints to 3 day. I prefer the 12-24 hour ones...
pic from a 6 hour race in austin a couple of years ago...

I've done them but it has been a while. I did the Hi-Tec Series years ago and it was a blast. Three person co-ed team and it included trail running, mountain biking, kayaking and they would stop you a bunch of times during the race to do random tests like rock climbing, carrying railroad ties, climbing nets... One I did was in Dallas in July. Had to be self supported, no water hand-outs and it was 100+ pretty much the entire race. Racers were dropping like flies. If an EMT even touched you, your entire team was DQ'ed. We ended up 36th out of 180 or so teams somehow. My two teammates were runners and I am a cyclist. The mountain bike portion was at the end and I gave them all my water trying to get them to the end because they were wanting to drop out. I spent the last 45 minutes lying to them about how much further we had to go. The whole thing was on ESPN, so that was pretty cool. One of the tests was they flattened one tire on a bike from each team. Couldn't figure out why a cameraman was waiting by my bike when we were starting the mountain bike stage. Turns out my bike had the flat. I sent my teammates ahead and was uber-prepared for flats with CO2 cartridges and spare tubes. Fixed it in a couple of minutes while a bunch of racers around me had nothing to fix theirs with or were busy pumping away with little pumps. All those years of mountain bike racing paid off for once.
Now my buddy is trying to get me to do this race with him. It just looks like 7 days of pain.Last edited by Sully; 02-18-2009, 12:25 PM.
