A lesson in bad information and being a good sportsman

    Hey gang -

So, there are a couple of people that have followed my journey with my family property over the last couple of years - really newbie management questions all the way to frustrations with the 'rules.' Well, today was a pivotal day.

Today I finally got to meet the other guy that's actually put time and work into hunting efforts at the property. I had to do a little growing up - bite my tongue and give this fella a fair shake - and I'm glad I did. Turns out, he's a totally cool guy. Level headed, funny, cares about the property and is really humble with my FIL. We hit it off immediately - showed him my stands, he showed me his setup, we talked and swapped trail cam pics and immediately started comparing notes. Before the end of the morning we had a rough plan and kind of 'between us' rules for the place. Man was it cool.

It struck me that I was being - I wont go so far as to call myself a jerk - but I was being a little unreasonable. I'm glad this confusion got cleared up because I learned a lot, and now I feel like the place is in even better hands with another person roaming around that cares about it.

Being fair to me, here is how we all got information tangled. Someone passed information to me that 'you can't kill a deer until he does.' HIS side of the rules were, 'you can kill anything but the deer.' If you do the math right, that means no one killed deer - and that was by design. We shared a good laugh about that.

Just goes to show - try not to be a hothead like me.

Dude, thanks for the kind words! I'm really glad we were able to get together this morning and I'm happy to have made a new friend. All the more fitting for you to also be one of these stand-up green screeners.

I think we have some (good, hard, and rewarding) work to do but that'll be much easier now that we can work together. The future now holds a bit less uncertainty and looks much more promising. Especially with venison officially going back on the menu.

Seriously looking forward to sharing bow season with you!
