Interesting that this thread popped up. I just took some out of a Covert that were completely dead. I bought them in mid May and noticed the camera stopped sending pics on July 5th. Finally got back out to the ranch last week to fill feeders. Nothing wrong with the camera or solar panel. Replaced the batteries and put the Amazon batteries on the charger and they won't charge.

They are rebranded Eneloops so that is odd. Wouldn't even know what to tell you if they won't take a charge at all. Bad batch?
I know of at least 8 cameras running them without any battery issues... including 4 of mine. 2 of those are in year 2. I paid for the Eneloop Pros only once ($55 at the time) and was then steered to the Basic 2400ma. The Eneloops went bad at 2.25 years so they were replaced with Basics. Mine are all now Basics as are all the guys running them on my lease. Pretty sure FNDs has a camera or two running them as well.

Are you running solar panels on all your setups? If not, how many pictures will a set of rechargeables take before needing to recharged? I have heard anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand. I can get 20,000 out of a set of regular lithium’s not coupled to a solar panel....trying to get a feel for both cost and convenience, as my lease is 7 hours away.

Yes....solar panels with 12 Amazon Basics 2400s rechargeable on every camera. It is a set and forget them setup. I am 5 hours from my deer lease and 45 minutes from my pig lease so I need something dependable and long lasting. TBHer roysmoke who has been at this game a year longer than me, recommended that setup and it has been great. I do not touch them even when I am there unless I need to do a firmware update. I'll set the cameras to overwrite to keep the SD card rolling and just pull pics from my ap or computer portal if I want to save them. I set them, turn them on and leave them and I'm up to 100-120 pics a day each on two of my sets at my lease and they keep plugging along.
20K on a wireless camera or a regular TC? I'm going to assume a regular TC? The wireless camera is a much different animal than a trail camera so you can't really even compare your lithium counts for it to a regular trail camera. Most of the juice is used up in the transmitting of the pic via the LTE system. It will use a whole lot more juice than any trail cameras. Also rechargeables are not built for long term usage without a panel so they run out quicker than say an alkaline or lithium. They are built to use and recharge. Can't compare them because of that. But....add the solar panel Covert panel and you can literally be without battery issues for 2-3 years. At lease that is my experience. Like I said above I had a set die at 2.25 years and a set that is rolling at 2.5 now still.Last edited by Smart; 08-26-2019, 07:59 PM.

Court....I can tell you that it is my reading, researching and observing experience that anything less than 2400 or the 2500mah, depending on your animal counts and especially at night, will have a hard time keeping up with the Coverts and the solar panel setup. This is why I specifically suggest the 2400mah Basics or 2500mah Eneloop Pros when folks ask me on here. If you have a small amount of pics a day then yes it can probably be done with the lower mahs. I have heard that even the 2000mah will not keep up with good animal populations. That being said they should still take a charge unless staying dead for a while killed them.
