    Pull Cord Replacement Help

My friend has a mercury 9.9hp from 1987. The pull cord broke and I am trying to replace it myself but I can’t find anything online.
Here are a few pictures of it. Any help is appreciated

If you can do it without taking the inertial wheel off then by all means do it that way. Just winding back to put the string under tension before tying off the handle might be an option.

Just be very methodical taking it apart and capture the recoil spring as you do.
Get a length of nylon rope longer than you need and reverse the process.
You will probably screw up the first dozen times, I know I would anyway but it's pretty straight forward just cumbersome.

If you're asking about the actual rope, it is just braided nylon line 1/4" solid braid (no core). If you're talking about "how" to, it's actually a pretty simple process if you carefully take apart the recoil assembly. You can separate the spool where the line is from the spring housing if you carefully hold the spring in place so that it doesn't pop out of his channel. If it does pop out, you can rewind it. It's not hard, just a time consuming PITA. Haven't done a search on the You Tube, but I'd bet there's videos of it.

I would recommend changing shoes and slacks before getting started, but it shouldnt be that big of a deal as long as you take your time and be careful with the spring.
