    Pronghorn with a bow

I have killed 3 PH and I wanna try one with my bow.

I have access to a large ranch with no pressure, and I have a buck decoy.

In the past the bucks have been very curious of the hunters.

What tips do y’all have for getting within range. My max is 40 yds.

    Tia

Would it help to have a buddy with a second buck decoy to help spot and range?

Can two guys get behind one decoy? One guy to hold up the decoy for me?

Find a water hole they are using and set up a blind. Once you find the water hole they are using, get way back from it and scout it so you can see what direction they normally come from and set up the blind accordingly.

I’d think to get one within 40 you would have to wait for the rut and get close before showing yourself. Just sit and let him come to you.

Yelp, our archery pronghorn season is post rut in oct, after rifle season. Goats are wired and decoys don’t work. Also why its an OTC tag

I've killed two with a bow, one in Colorado and one in Wyoming. Both were killed around water holes.

I got mine from a pop-up blind at a waterhole in Montana.

Think about setting up on holes in the fence or regular fence crossings, as they don’t like jumping, but will crawl under,
                        water is my next favorite
Some of my hunters were dead set on killing one with a pistol and four or five were bow hunters we had 100% success on different places, fort Davis, valentine , fluvana , post

I hunt pronghorn in New Mexico as well as guide there every year. I’ve killed one with a bow but I’ve guided multiple people to pronghorn with a bow. Everyone was spot and stalk killed under 60 yards. The key is to watching them till you get them in the perfect area to put on a stalk. I never try during the middle of the day when the sun is high. I like to wait till the sun is low and use it in my favor by putting the sun at my back. Then there’s lots of crawling and waiting. Sometimes a white rag on a stick works to get there attention and they will come check you out.

I’m just north of there on other side of the border, you will be on the down side of the rut via end of sept . It’s very possible to blow them off a few sections if you arent careful, so take that in account. Every property is different terrain wise.
