What to look for in a older jeep

I have been thinking of picking up a older cj7 or possibly a YJ. Any tips to on what to look for?

For a hunting vehicle I like the CJ's. Find a straight six 258 engine. Crawl under it and look for rust, body & frame. Check the floor pans for rust also. Make sure 4wd works. See if there is a fan shroud around the fan. Going slow in the summer they tend to overheat. Fan shroud or flex fan will help. Make sure gauges, light , etc work. Check passenger floor board for heater core leak. Can't beat a Jeep on the lease.

Pertronix sells an electronic ignition that gets rid of points, condenser. Easy to install under your distributor cap.

Most 86 CJ-7s had Dana 44 rear ends which is a nice upgrade.

Looking to use this as a daily driver. I am curious is it better to add fuel injection to a inline 6 or go with a v8 and use fuel injection? I am not after speed but like the efficiency of a fuel injected system.

I live the Toyota's but I like the ability of the aftermarket support of the jeep. Thanks for the offer though

CJ for sure, upgrade to a 50K volt DUI distributor. That 258 6 cyl. will really perk up. You will also be able to eliminate a lot of unnecessary wiring.

Very nice. I have been looking and most appear to be Rino lined inside and painted black. I really like the tan interiors. You have a very nice one

I sold it a while back. Would love to build a Scrambler.
You can get everything JEEP from Quadratech on line.

Yea, it was a real eye opener when I saw you could by frames, tubs, fenders, every bit and bolt online. You could literally mail order you a jeep. Lol

                            Round headlights.

                            The rest is fixable
