    Help with Lab Pup

Okay.... so our 14 week old chocolate lab pup has the squirts. It’s been about two weeks now.. when they first started I took her to the vet. They didn’t find anything, and they suggested feeding white rice and chicken. When we brought her home at 8 weeks we used the same food that the breeder was feeding her. The runs just started one night.

We did the chicken and rice for about a week. Took her back in to the vet, and they still didn’t see anything as far as parasites or diseases.

We have not seen any change in behavior, she’s still putting on weight (8lbs in 2 weeks). She’s drinking plenty of water, and there’s been no real change in the output.

Does anyone have any help? This is my 3rd lab, so I’m not new in the department. This just has me stumped.

So they for sure did a stool sample?

Mine came home with coccidia and was in similar shape. Also wouldn’t touch the food that our breeder had him on cause it was garbage. Immediately switched to purina pro plan focus.

Puttin on weight that’s good sounds like that food just isn’t agreeing with her.

We have tried 2 different foods, and boiled chicken and white rice.

Have not tried the yogurt. How much do you give her, what kind?

Can try adding fiber to diet; Give 1 tablespoon of BeneFiber twice daily. I would feed a reputable puppy food like Purina Pro Plan, Royal Canin, etc. She is really too young for it to be a dietary allergy. If that doesn't work I've had success with putting them on Tylosin for a while. It's a powdered antibiotic commonly used in chickens but works well for several bacterial causes of diarrhea. Also I commonly put them on 5 days of panacur (a dewormer) regardless of what the fecal says.

Feel free to PM me with any questions left unanswered. I'm not the best about checking them right away but I will get back with you as my schedule permits.

Went through a similar thing with my lab pup a few month back. I’m not sure what he got into but he was bad off for about a week. Did all the tests at the vet but didn’t find anything. Even had X-rays. They ended up giving him a huge fluid shot so he had a huge lump under his skin to keep him from getting dehydrated. They also gave me some pills to give him for about a week. Fed him a mixture of their sensitive stomach canned food with pumpkin mixed in. You can buy canned pumpkin at the pet store for dogs. It took a few days but he finally got over it. I wonder if she’s getting really dehydrated?

When our puppy was teething we were giving her pig ears and the same thing happened. No pig ears and the squirts went away. Good Luck

Try some canned pumpkin by itself.

yogurt is typically good for tummy trouble, as is fiber. I use a probiotic in my dogs food from day one and almost never have any stomach trouble.

We gave our pup some puréed pumpkin mixed in with her food and that helped a lot.

I'll feed raw food to every dog I will ever own from here on out. The stuff works great.

I had a pup have that once, gave them canned pumpkin, raw egg, yogurt mixed together. Sometimes rice. Egg helps make sure they're getting their fat/protein.
