How do the dang mice do this...

the blower motor fan in my sons / mine truck was getting louder and less smoothe over the last month or so... my other sons truck was doing the same thing...cept his stunk to high heaven.
1999 & 2002 F150's. I got a new motor fan and resistor(it was bad). I took out 4 mice recently in my garage...hopefully they are gone... I found evidence of a nest feeling around by the resistor. How do they get in there ?????

All I know is I accidentally locked one up in my conex a few months back "rat not a mouse" and he built three nests the size of a volleyball in there. I found all sort of items off the shelves in those nests. I still have not found my game cam viewer that was in my side by side.

If the vehicle has no other openings to the outside, rust holes or left open areas, this can only occur when the culprit enters thru the fresh air door. When the A/C system is left on fresh air mode position, the door is open to the outside air. This allows the culprit to freely enter if he finds his way thru the air intake to the outside, in the cowl area. Changing to outside air or recirculated air closes this door. Remembering to do this each time you shut down the vehicle is annoying, but about the only way unless a wire screen can be installed on a vehicle. A few vehicles do this automatically, but some reset to outside air when key is turned off. A very bad situation when the rats create a trail into an area. Vehicles parked for a long periods of time are most likely to have this happen, particularly in the winter time.

I try to change the A/C to vent when I get home. I live in the sticks but have not had a problem in the past. Just seems to be these trucks and no other vehicles. Will be more diligent to turn erry-thing off when get home...thanx.

is leaving the air changer in "VENT" ok ? I can set it to off if need be.

oh...where the heck is the fresh air door?

I've taken several dead mice out of the fan on my Taco through the years.

The fresh air door is usually in the area behind the glove box on the passenger side. It is deep within the housing of the HVAC unit against the firewall. Leaving it in vent or just turning it off just about ensures the critter has free access to the blower motor wheel. Going to the inside or recirc position closes the door to outside air. This truck may be old enough to have a vacuum controlled door that will bleed to the open position after long period of sitting. On these vehicles, only a wire screen will prevent the problem.

Had 1 get in my 08 super duty. Got in the passenger ac vent. Inside the louver and head suck in the “honeycomb” beyond that and died. I tore that truck apart looking for the dead mouse smell. Like a dead mouse air freshener with the ac in. It was tough!

Some vehicles have a cabin air filter within the air intake which will slow down the varmint, but they can chew right thru a paper filter. Installing a wire mesh screen over the cabin air filter is possible on some vehicles, but most do not have room for this. The ford F150 of the 99 and up do not have a filter unless specially installed by someone. Might search the internet to see if someone has done it on this model F150.

I have had mice get in the blower fan of a 1994 Ford pickup and a 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac.

Neither could run as fast as the blower spun at high speed!!! [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

I got in my cab tractor yesterday and this gosh awful dead mouse stench smacked me. I had to pull the headliner to find it. I thought the same thing. The only cracks were only a quarter inch wide just big enough for wasps.

I lived in the country for 10 years and had at least one tractor parked in the hay field the entire time. Never had a problem . We move to the city and a dang rat chews the wires off the gauge cluster on my tractor.. I finally gave in an let the kids get an outside cat. I haven't seen a mouse since..

Hate it. A year or 2 ago I had one get in my old truck. Heard a noise in the fan then it quit, but sounded weird. Forgot about it till 3 days later when I got back in. Was terrible smell. Finally got his carcass cleaned out of the fan and bleached the whole inside of the fan area. Still took at least 6 months till I couldnt smell it any more.
