    Researcher with a sclae needed/wanted

    Here's what I'm wondering.

I "weigh" the pigs I kill by using the formula I found on the website. I have found this same formula on multiple sites. https://thepigsite.com/articles/weig...ithout-a-scale

Since I don't own a scale I can't verify how accurate or inaccurate this method is.

If you own a scale and weigh your pigs on it would you be willing to take to 2 measurements on the pig and do some simple math to calculate the weight and they weigh the same with your scale?

If it'll help, you can just post the 2 measurements and the scale weight I will do the calculations. I have a spreadsheet I made on my phone that does does the calculations.

Also if you want to track the "weight" of the pigs you kill I'll share it with you.
    It's in MS Excel

Hanging scales don’t cost that much.

Why not buy a handling scale?

I have a scale if you need to borrow it to check your calculations. All the pigs I have been shooting lately are 30-50#’s so I don’t worry about weighing them.

I don't have anyway of or desire of using a hanging scale. nor do I want to spend the $ on a something I might use a couple of times.

I thought some of you did weigh them and was hoping that taking 2 measurements wouldn't be much of an Imposition.

Just do like everyone else and say they're all 250-300# all day.[emoji12]

My buddy and I have weighed enough to call the measuring “scale” pretty close. Some hogs are fatter or skinnier than others but we weighed several hogs over 100 and less than 175 and it was pretty dang close. The little ones we didn’t bother with. I’d say on larger hogs you would be within 10/15 lb. either way.

I’ve used it compared to scales 3-4 times.
On sub 200 pounders and sows it was within 10-15 pounds +\-

Bigger hogs especially boars it was off too much for me. I guess due to where they can carry more weight forward and some have a rear end like a bull frog.

Scales are like under $20.... and tell you exactly what they weigh. Under 200 I personally don’t care, I just know it’s under 200. Over... I want to know (just me)

I just use scales. There ain't to doubt then.

Scales takes the guessing out. And takes the +\- variance out.

You can get a set of cheap ones for $20 that will go over 300lbs. And they are better than nothing.

If the hog bottoms out the scales, cut a hindquarter or two off and weigh it. Then weigh the hindquarters.
