what to do with an old computer

i've got an old computer that i need to get rid of. is there any place that will take them or should i just use it for target practice? i've deleted everything on it, but i'm concerned about some computer geek still being able to still get info off it.

Take the HDD out and use a hammer to it if you are concerned. the rest can go to salv army or goodwill.

I read an article by a computer expert that the best and safest way to dispose of an old computer was to burn it.

There are times that I want to do that to the one I am sitting in front of.

We put a ziploc back of Tannerite inside one and shot it from about 100 yards. It blew pieces of the case over our head and about 30 yards behind us. Man how I wish I had the video camera going.

While not as fun as some of the other suggestions, Best Buy offers free computer recycling (or so the ad said).

I owned a mom and pop computer store for awhile, I always wanted to take old computers and do a low level format, reload the operating system and then donate it to a church to be given to family's with children that could not afford a new computers.
