I'd be willing to bet you have been a lot closer to many rattlers than you ever imagined. Their camoflauge is just amazing and they don't always rattle.

Tons of snakes in the area. Me and my wife have a little spot in pearl, up the road and last summer during the drought 3 people were bit by rattle snakes within a mile of barndo. Two were bit in their yards, and one was bit in her extended washroom.

And I’d be willing to bet that you are right. Don’t care for these things much.

You must have lived a sheltered life. I keep a logbook of rattlesnake kills. Six in one week a few years back.

We hunt around between Bend and Cherokee and have killed 2. Lots in the area.

The very first one? Dang that's crazy. The most I've seen in a day was around 60 if you include the baby ones I saw which I don't catch. But then again most people ain't walkin around looking for them either.

Still pretty crazy that's the first one you've ran across.

I think you need a little more gun for the next snake.

I actively look for them on my hill country lease and in 30 years only came across 1 and that was 25 years ago.

That's wild. Around this time of year I see less because it's hotter than the hubs of hell outside. They do most of their moving at night right now. Spring and Fall are the best time for seeing snakes.

The landowners son stepped between 2 of them 25 years ago and got bit by both. I have seen and caught 2 coral snakes, 1 cotton mouth and a couple copperheads over the years ( none of any kind in probably 5 years) but no rattlesnakes. I knowit's crazy, and I keep searching but no dice to this point
