I’m sure this will end up being a thread much like “which broadhead is better”, but after a terrible December 2017 Xmas trip to angel fire which resulted in manufactured snow(only), an ambulance ride for my daughter and a blown Acl for my wife.....the family is gearing up for the torture this Xmas again. Looking for recommendations besides angel fire? Looking at a 5-6 day trip total. Thought about Colorado but not real familiar the resorts up there. Only been to angel fire and red river NM. Angel fire and red river seem to have good beginner slopes. Mother Nature of course needs to cooperate.

That's tough going so early. If snow and conditions are important you can't book very far in advance. You have to go where the snow is. Some years the Rockies are best, other years the west is best. New Mexico is always hit or miss especially that early. Conditions are best in February, March and April.

By far my favorite place to go though is Wolf Creek - not commercialized, no huge crowds or long lift lines. Fly into Durango, rent a van and stay in Pagosa Springs - make the 30 minute drive to the mountain everyday. Best vacation i've ever had and we've been there 4-5 times. Consistently the best snow in all of Colorado based on a 15+ year sample size.

Breckenridge - Pricey/crowded
Winter Park - relatively cheap/big mountain for all skills/family place
Durango, CO - beautiful place but there was no snow when I went. I will never book a place again that has hit or miss snow. It is not worth it. Man-made snow makes for a dangerous ski trip when it freezes over. Ask me how I know.
I have been to winter park and have loved it both times. A lot of snow, awesome snowmobiling, and one of the best tubing hills in Fraser.
