I was planning on running a deer population survey from September 2 to September 21. Detailed instructions are in this link, but the gist of it is: set up 1 camera in the center of every 100 acres, place corn down and have cameras set up next to the corn. I would then count the does, fawns, and unique bucks, put the numbers in a formula and bam, you have an estimation of the doe:duck ratio and a rough count of the number of deer on your property.
The property is 1,500 acres and I've got 10 cameras set up (I'm not counting about 300 acres that has no cover and human activity, and I plan on putting up 2 more cams to have the 1 cam per 100 acre ratio covered.)
I've already got 2 feeders up with one running now and the other starting August 1...
My question: Am I going to disrupt their feeding patterns by having all these other food sources and ruin my October hunts, or am I not going to get accurate information on the survey because I'm already throwing corn?
And the reason I'm doing the corn this early and trying to do the survey...this is my first lease, I've only had the opportunity to hunt a handful of times, and I am absolutely PUMPED and excited to go out every month and look at cameras and see what's moving around the area.
I feel like a kid again.
