    gas engine chip

I've had a couple of friends tell me I ought to put a bullydog chip on my new Dodge Ram 1500 4.7. anybody have any 1st hand knowledge on em? thanks

Not worth it on a gas engine IMO. You will see minimal gains for the $$$ spent. Diesel is a whole nother ball game. Diesels benefit well from a programmer.

i have a dodge 2500 w/ a hemi and have had a super chip programmer in it since new its a 05 model and its worth evey penny youre not going to gain as much horsepower as a disel but ther is improvement for towing and performance if you dont have a cold air intake i would recomend one with the programmer good luck

I used a Hyperchip programmer on my 01 RAM. There was a noticeable increase in torque, and the tranny shift points were a lot better and smoother. Zero increase in mileage, so I unprogrammed it and returned it for a refund at AutoZone. They had a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so it cost me nothing to try it out.

I had one on a '97 chebby ... I couldn't tell a bit of difference, but I kept it because it let me recalibrate my speedo for oversized tires.

I'm sure they've come a long way since then.

dont listen to anyone that has a deisel, its a whole different ball game in a gas truck. mike d is the only one who has got it right on here. i have the exact same motor in my truck and i dont even think about a programmer. now you say a chip...do you mean a module or programmer? there is a very big difference.
a module plugs in and stays, cant change a thing, one stteing, thats it.
a programmer (superchip, bullydog, diablo, hypertech, etc.) you can play with....

but the most real h.p. your gonna see in a gas motor with any of them is about 25 h.p.
i wouldnt waste my time or money.

diablos suck.....plain and simple....the only one i have even thought about is Jet....and i talked myself out of it, get a cold air intake, open up your exhaust, and go.

and there is not very many companies that make them for your truck.....only the hemi and the cummins. superchips and jet are the two that come to mind. hypertech, bullydog, diablo, edge, all dont make one.

there are very few people on here with much experience with this stuff other than the one they saw that looked good, or got talked into at a shop to put on thier truck.
anyone that walks into our shop and asks for a programmer or module for a gas truck usually leaves with an intake, or nothing, yes i lose a sale, but i would rather have happy, satisfied customers than some people who thought we screwed them over with something that wont work like they think it will.

the only one i would recomend for a stock truck would be a superchip if your still stuck on one. we have had ZERO problems out of the hundreds we have sold....bully dog is good, but they dont make one(that i can remember)for that motor.

get an intake, and dont waste your money on k&n or afe or any of that crap...volant is the ONLY way to go, and the only true cold air intake.....still lookin for more power? get someone to switch your exhaust, stock exhaust are very restrictive, open that sucker up and dump it.

if you have anymore questions pm me..ill be glad to help.

I'd get the diablo Predator once they make it for your truck. You can change shift points, change shift firmness and run the gears out a little longer, Someone ww/ experience can really tweak the I used mine for the tire size change when I went w/ 35's on an 06 Z-71. I can see a difference whe I run the 91 octane tune. I also wnet w/ a k&n and replaced the stock muffler w/ a Thrush tube. Sounds awesome and runs like a scolded ape for a 4wd crew cab.

I think that's what Alane said... she went to get an upgrade and they were giving Billy's away. If she only knew....

                              Mornin', Billy.
