    Trinity River NWR

I see that TPWD is offering draw hunts on Trinity River. In the past, the US Parks Service would conduct draws for hunting. Has anyone hunted here before? Did you see numerous deer? Thanks!

Alot of it has been under water the last few deer seasons.

I dont understand the upland category as squirrels and rabbits. I've never heard squirrels and rabbits referred to as upland game.

Be prepared to walk or use a bike. I believe most areas are roughly 1/4 mile just to get into the hunting area.

It's bottomland hardwood and visibility can be limited. Last season was flooded and I don't think you could access the areas.

Lots of Mosquitos and snakes. Floods the last few years have seemed to push the deer out to higher ground but not sure on all the units. There are some decent deer down there but it is thick and not an easy hunt. A lot of it was flooded all spring so not sure how the does/fawns did.

Been that way for as long as I can remember.

I've hiked (scouted) some of it before. Like other said, it mostly flooded during the season. You're gonna need two thermocells on you to keep skeeters away. It didn't look worth it to me.

It is hard hunting, expect long hikes, lots of mosquitos. like others has stated past years have had some of the better places flooded and pushed all the animals out. I know some folks that have hunted the areas in the past and never seen an animal.
                    its a gamble

Several units to choose from but like others said it has flooded a lot the past few years. All units are walk only, no bikes, except for one that is handicap accessible with ATV. TPWD doesn't state it on their site but the NWR email we got said $130 if selected.
My last year to hunt it there were folks riding loud SxS thru the unit during the hunt and folks did not respect the 300 yard rule. It was not a good year.

I have never set foot in it but I would wager it is loaded with pigs. If you don't see deer shoot a couple pigs!
