    Metal Building Question....

I have a 24 x 25 slab behind my carport that I want to build a small shop on. Like the size to be about 23 x 24 or 25. 9 ft wall height to 12 in center to match carport. I am pricing out the prefab kits along with just buying materials. My FIL has offered to build it for me for free. So the question is what is going to be my best and most economical route? Any suggestions on best places to go for materials or best place for prefab kit? Have several bids coming in but looking for recommendations. I’m just outside of Waco but wouldn’t mind driving a bit for materials to save some money. Thanks guys.

Mueller probably for kits if you have one close.

I just got steel quotes for an addition to my shop, of the 3 I got meuller was the highest by about $1500. Royal metal building components was the cheapest, and metal mart was about $100 higher than them. None of this was for a prefab, Just the raw red iron

We use Metal Mart mainly. I’ve also used Mueller a few times, and MM always beats Mueller. Non were prefab kits though. I knew what I needed, and cut everything to length myself for weld ups.

Mueller won’t be cheapest on straight up metal pieces but will be the best “deal” on bolt kits they make a good product.

If you want red iron look for a volume steel place in your area they will be cheapest.

I love our mueller building. Built out the inside ourselves.
Bolted to slab I feel really safe and the kit delivered was pretty cheap.

Weird, I just picked up $4400 worth of red iron, r-panel and trim from Mueller Wednesday and Metal Mart was $235 more expensive.

So I don’t need to do a prefab kit, he’s built plenty of buildings and knows what he’s doing, thank goodness because I have no clue. But my building materials quote came back at 6300 dollars from my local metal place for materials..... about 2k more for the size building than the prefab kit. That is why I’m trying to figure out the best route to go. I guess I need to get another materials quote from another bulk metal shop.

Price wise would be to go with a standard size kit from Mueller or Metal Mart. They both make a 24x24 shop that is 10' walls and one door opening of 8'tall x 10' wide and a walk through door. Go with a light colored wall tin, dark, but standard trim kit, galvanized roof and their standard pitch roof. You change any thing from standard and the price goes up. There is a Mueller at Temple and a Metal Mart in Belton. Mueller will deliver for $140, Metal Mart doesn't deliver at all.
