Any Chevy service managers on here?

Got a question for y'all. My brother-in-law has a 2017 pickup 4 wheel drive. 2 weeks ago he is driving back from walmart and it broke down. He bought it from Orr Chevy in Texarkana. He also got the extended warranty when he bought the truck. Long story short the ears broke on the front differential which caused it to drop and knock a hole in the differential. The dealership is claiming he hit something so the insurance company went out and said nope. There is zero evidence that he hit anything. This is not an insurance claim. it is just a repair. Orr Chevy refuses to fix it under warranty. He was going to pick up the truck but they said he now owes them $500. I know without looking it is all guess work but what to y'all think is going on here?

Is it lifted ? Factory Chevy warranty frowns on that

He owes them $500 because when you take a vehicle to a dealership you generally sign an agreement that you'll eat the cost of labor if the repair is not a warrantable repair. It appears as the fee would be for diagnostic tear down to inspect and see what happened. A good service writer will explain that to the customer up front and make them aware that they could have to pay for repairs if they were not deemed warrantable or they just arent covered under the extended policy. Those extended policies can be a joke most times unless you purchase the manufacturer extended warranty and even then they can get silly on coverage of things. I've seen instances where they'll cover a coil pack but not the spark plug because that's a service item even though the plug is fouled due to coil failure. Tell your BIL to request a field service engineer to come out and inspect it, they'll generally override the technician and make them repair it if it's a legitimate failure.

Not lifted and it is the manufacturer extended warranty.

I had to do this when my truck was getting stuck in 4wheel drive , 4 hi then 4 low ,neutral at random
And then act fine at the dealerships, the engineer traced it to a software problem
The service writer was a real jerk about it and actually would end up getting fired

Did they repair it, or is the $500 just for diagnosis?

They are wanting to charge that just for looking at it. They want $5,000 to fix it.

That’s what I figured. If I recall correctly, the dealer has to prove that the breakage was the owners fault to void the warranty. Probably need a lawyer…

I should have updated this but forgot. They contacted GM. They sent someone out that looked and said it was a defective part and that the dealership would fix. Also told them since the dealership had acted so inappropriately that they would not have to pay the $500. So it took a little while but it is all good now.

Glad everything worked out for you. It shouldn't be such a hair pull to get something done that you have paid for.

I have never understood why dealerships won’t work on warranty items. It is guaranteed paid money. Except the warranty will pay at a reduced cost. I guess they can make more doing other work. There is rarely a reason to not cover a warranty. A lift does not void the warranty unless the lift was the cause. Glad it worked out.

I agree folks. I am glad that it turns out Orr Chevy sucks but GM will step in and made it right.

It's not just Orr Chevy, I have done business with another Orr dealership and wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

Doesn’t take much “tear down” when they grenade and poke a hole in the housing...
