    Smoke detector question

There seems to be plenty of knowledgeable people around here and I got no one else to ask so don’t fail me green screen.

I noticed the other day that the smoke detector in our bedroom has solid green and red lights on at all time. I could have sworn it used to be just a green light. It never beeped like the battery was getting low or anything and the google says nothing about both lughts being solid at the same time. It mentions a solid green with a flashing red, just a red, or just a green but not what I’m seeing. Anyone know what it means?

One in the hall is doing the same thing. The others are in the (currently sleeping) kids’ rooms. No brand on the outside of the units.

        How old are batteries?
        Probably needing fresh batteries

Check the ones in the kids bedrooms in the morning. I think that’s normal. Typically if one fails they will all alarm like crazy. If the battery is low they will beep every 30-60sec.

How old are the batteries? How old are the detectors? Are they hardwired?

Did a little research a couple of years ago on smoke detectors since our house was built in 2003. They say that you should replace the whole unit every 10 years or so. I ordered all new ones off Amazon that plugged in to the same hard wiring that our house was built with. The difference is that I bought new ones with 10 year lithium backup batteries. No changing 9 volts every year and no random chirping that invariably always starts in the middle of the night. They were not too much more expensive that 9 volt ones and will actually be cheaper after figuring in the replacement battery costs.

Yep, time to replace them. The ones in the kids’ rooms work but the others don’t.

The batteries were dead but they didn’t beep when they were low because the speakers don’t work. They just make a crackling sound. Replacements on the way!

                Thanks folks.
