I hate they were stolen, those were a piece of certified history. That was when the big debacle of the square grooves arose and they were going after PING for non conformance on club making. Those BeCu irons would tear up some balls for sure. There was no doubt players had an edge with those in their bag. I still have a few wedges from that era.

If you can every find a set that are not the "+" model, you need to pick them up.

Another, not publicized but true story about Mickey Mantle. He was playing a round at Preston Trails, with whom I don’t know, but it may have been Goetz. This was before the course had houses all around it. Of course, with Mantle, alcohol was involved, and someone bet him that he would not play naked. Never one to turn down a bet, Mantle played 9 holes naked as a jay bird except for his socks and shoes!!! That was a legendary true story in the Dallas golf community back then.
Mantle may have been a drunk, but he was really involved in youth sports back in the 60's. I saw him several times at ball games at Kiest Park here in Dallas. He also let me and another kid go into his restaurant and sell thin mints to customers to raise money for our Pop Warner football team.
