    Truck problem question round 2

Ok, I posted here a while back about my truck not starting when I turn the key sometimes. Replaced the starter and I work perfectly for a week. Now it’s back to doing the same thing. You turn the key and nothing. Keep turning it a couple of times and it eventually engages everything and it starts. What else could it be?

sounds like a loose connection or bad cable. When you changed the starter
then the connections were good a few days then got loose or cable is half broken some where.

Your switch could be flakey also My guess is clean both connections on your battery
and the connections to your starter. If it still does it off an on then I would guess switch

      key cylinder possibly

Looks like a fairly easy job depending on what you are driving

I might look, at ignition switch itself...

Just replaced the ignition switch and burned out wiring pigtail on a 2003 Ram 2500. No start at times and no A/C blower speeds. Switch is available at a parts store. The wiring harness repair package is 05183441AA. It is a repair kit for the 14 wire connector and contains a new wire end plug. Only available from Chrysler.

Change out and splice only the burned wires. Transfer the good wires to the new plug.

What kind of truck? If the brake has to be engaged it could be the brake switch. Also, jiggle the gear shift lever to make sure it knows it in Park. Could have a loose sensor there

2004 ram 2500. Thought it was the gear shifter knowing it was in park, but juggled it this morning when it wouldn’t start and nothing.

Mine was what the transmission people call shift range sensor. It was on an F150. Some sensors are mounted on the out side of tranny ( $80 ) part. Some are located inside tranny ( $80 part ) , but $600 labor. Guess where mine was.

Remove the gas cap and replace everything else with a Ford, or Chevy. Then chunk the gas cap.

All kidding aside, as suggested above I would clean and tighten all of the connections again. Sounds like something shook loose after a few miles.

Possibly worn out ignition switch. As stated above, typically a pretty easy repair.

My 98 GMC Z71 would cut out going down the road @ 75 mph, or at stop signs or just sitting there running.

Sometimes my radio would loose it's memory.

It ended up being a loose positive connection @ the battery. Replaced the stripped out bolt with new one last week. I haven't had any issues since

                          Sorry I forgot to add

Several times wouldn't start. Wouldn't even click

                            Check the starter relay.
