I drive an hour both ways and honestly enjoy it. Granted I driver about 50k a year so it’s hRdly noticeable. But it’s early in the morning so avoid most traffic and it’s my quiet time. It also allows me some time to decompress on the way home and do my best to try to keep work at work.

Open highway mixed with a bit of stop light traffic is nothing compared to a crawl down an interstate heading into a large metro area.
With that said, anything over an hour each way will start to get old after a while imo. You will also rack up a lot of miles on whatever vehicle you are driving.
It's definitely nice to have a place outside the city, but it's absolutely a give and take type of deal in my experience. I did 50 miles each way when living on the coast and commuting to Houston. Sure, I loved living on the coast, but also never could really enjoy it much. Got home late many days and felt like I spent half my time in the car as compared to my house.Last edited by CaptainDave; 06-25-2019, 02:48 PM.

Youll be by a lake, I bet they come visit! But do be prepared to not see them as much. As for us, thats very much the case.

Punch up a podcast or listen to The Ticket on the way in.
As far as a better school district... In my opinion, it is not about the schools. It is about the parents who make the time to see how their kids are doing in school. What are they reading? How are things in math class? Push them to be in the top of their class, take the AP route. That along with some athletics as a balance, will produce kids that are ready for college.

I have never had a commute shorter than 20min in all my life. Longest was 60 miles one way. Did that for 7 years.
Current workplace: I used to live 26 miles from work and would have to fight traffic on i35e daily. Usually 45-60min each way.
Moved out of town and I'm 37 miles from work. Takes me 40 min each way and smooth sailing.
