I’ve seen a lot of snakes and know a diamond back when I s me but is this an Eastern Massasagua Rattlesnake? It was killed on North Padre Island, bear my house..
A western Masasauga? Are the worth any money alive?

Not compared to any of the others. If you were to sell them by the pound it'd take quite a few to make much money. They're generally no more than 23" long at the most. They're kinda pretty in their own way I think. Hat bands and things like that made out of them might be worth more than the snake itself. With them being such a small snake that's probably about all a person could do with one.
Is there a common name for those. Never heard of a Masasauga.
I've only heard them called a "ground rattler" if they weren't called a Massasauga. That's an old school name for them though. My great Grandma always called them that.

Guess we don't have those in South Louisiana or SE Texas.
When they are frozen in the freezer and pulled out for pics they get all frosty white, then start sweating and look sopping wet. I’d bet it’s pretty freshly killed....
