    Railroad rail pasture drag

Evening folks, I just got done dragging part of my pasture with a 10' section of rr rail. I quit because I didn't seem be doing anything but pissing the fire ants off. The rail is heavy. About 8" tall and I can barely budge it on my own. I'm trying to fix some pig ruts. I dragged one way then reversed direction. I'm guessing the grass is too tall. Do I add a second rail? Adding tires would be pis sin in the wind.

Unfortunately nothing works good when grass is involved. You really need to disk the ground up and then drag.

X2 we use our rail behind our disc. Makes a smooth pasture

The disc comments are spot on. When it’s your own property getting torn up by those rodents it gives you a different view point on their existence.

Put some grubs under the ground next to the holes and when they come dig them up they will push the dirt back into the old holes for you.

It worked wonders for my dads place, but like others have said there was no grass.

I use a disc and add a cattle panel drag to the disc. lay 2 cattle panels side by side lengthwise, wire them together and put two RR cross ties on them about 3-4 feet apart. Works beautifully.

This has my blade on it, but I found out later the disc works better.

Fixed in just a few minutes.

When grass is involved its tough. A disc is and option. We have an Aerway aerator that is adjustable and with that and a drag it seems to work the best.

one thing i did which worked great for a drag.

Get a piece of 8-10" C channel and turn it down, then weld the RR iron on the top sitting straight up. Then put 4 6-8" wide shoes one on each end and 2 in the middle of the c channel to help it skid and not skip. With the weight and the sharp edge of the C channel it works great then i have 8 18 wheeler tires behind that. Then ill pull a 16ft wide Chain Drag behind that.

Ill get a picture of mine one evening right now its down at one of my leases.
