Whats considered a trophy Nilgai?

I know its subject to each person, but generally speaking...

Never been on a hunt (yet), but several friends have.
Even the largest horns seem small.
When I go, any mature blue bull is gonna be a trophy for me.
If I can’t get one, then a cow for my friends and I to share will
be awesome!

Not sure what’s a trophy, but a friend of mine just gave me some Nilgai meat and it’s fantastic. Good luck on the hunt.

I would say anything over 8" is a good bull. Anything 9" or better is a trophy.

Anything 9+ inches with good mass at the bases , biggest I ever seen killed was about 11 inches a true monster

Saw an 8" killed on the Laguna Atascosa hunt this year. Seemed like a nice bull.

Just being able to take down a nilgai bull is a trophy, tough animals and hard to hunt. Excellent eating.

No offense, but the difference between good and great is one inch?
Seems like weight or age in years would be a much better method.

That seems to be the case.

Also, if you're looking for a shoulder mount, an 8 inch bull with a dark blue cape would be preferred over a 9 inch with a light cape...IMO.

Thanks. Yes I was asking on the horn size. I've also heard the meat is fabulous, and can't wait to try it for myself!!!

The one I shot this year was 9 1/4 at 500lbs. What made it a trophy was the stalk to get within range, making the tough shot, and the recovery. Being there with good people added to it too. That’s the real trophy of it.

Like most animals, I don't care too much about the horn size for a nilgai.

It's all about filling the freezer.
