I have had three customers who bought cars off of ebay. All three got screwed bad. All three cars had major problems. One car was a 69 Roadrunner, it came from Washington state, had more rust than steel, you could stand next the right rear of the car, look at the top of the quarter panel and see wall the way to the ground. The quarters were rotted out, roof, floors, pretty much all of the sheet metal was rotted badly. Also the Roadrunner had been stolen and had a assigned VIN. The transmission needed to be rebuilt, the engine needed head gaskets, which it turns out that nobody makes head gaskets for 383s anymore, you have to buy 440 head gaskets. Which are a lot larger bore diameter, so you loose compression. It looked good in pictures.
Another car, guy bought a 93 Cobra. That car had been hit very hard in the left rear quarter panel, then not repaired properly. The floor pan was still wadded up and had large cracks in the floor pan. The left inner quarter panel was wadded up pretty badly. The crossmember that the upper torque boxes are attached to, was almost completely ripped loose from the floor of the car. The torque boxes in fox body Ford or SN95s, are what the rear upper and lower control arms attach too. So when they rip loose, your control arm is not attached to the car anymore. That car had major body damage, then it also had multiple problems with the engine. But they got good money on ebay.
Then the other car that I know of being bought on ebay, is a Mustang coupe, turbo car, it had a bunch of good parts in it, looked great. The person who did the work on that car was more of a artist or visionary than a mechanic or fabricator. They came up with some stuff that looked very good. But mechanically the car was done very badly. Most everything that was done to the car was screwed up very badly. I could write a book about all of the major problems on that car. I know that guy paid a lot of money for that car.
I tell people all the time, if you can't go see a car in person, don't even consider buying it, unless it is very cheap and you can see enough parts in pictures that are worth the asking price of the car. Even then, I still would not buy a car that I have not seen in person first. The fact they are not selling the trailer through Ebay, means they want to leave Ebay out, so you don't have much help to go after them if you actually get the trailer and find that it is scrap metal. I know if you pay with Paypal, Paypal will get your money back, if you are not happy with a item or you don't receive your item. Paypal was create by Ebay. If Ebay finds out you bought a item off of Ebay and they did not get their cut from the deal, they will go after the seller for sure, possibly the buyer, to get their money. If it has wheels, don't buy it on ebay.

I purchased a "off auction" Item. It was a cash register. Price was significantly lower than what others were asking but I paid for it anyway to see what would happen. When I never got a response from the seller (after about a month), eBay took action and gave me the refund. Might not be the same for all products, but I believe eBay still has some sort of buyer protection on all items.

For those that are eBay pros
I had a similar situation one time, I walked away as it was too scammy for me. If it was listed local then I wanted to pickup and not escrow money with eBay and wait for delivery and timeframe for transaction to complete. Said they were being deployed and this and that and that was the only way. PASS not worth effort potential scam.

OP didn't mention where it was located but if it's coming out of Oklahoma be aware they don't require title or registration there.
(consequently lots of stolen trailers there)
It's a nightmare to register in Texas.
Going through that right now for a Craig's List trailer I bought from a guy in OK.

As I bought a offshore fishing boat, from a guy based in Oklahoma ( not off line but in person)
The trailer was a no title, the hull was titled in North Carolina and each engine was separately titled in North Carolina but with Oklahoma registration , it was a complete nightmare that even USAA bank was never able to sort outand finally just dumped on me after I paid off the note! Now all my machinery, trailers, boats, ect are Texas origination and titled

As usual, it appears the green screen is right again. Been emailing with the seller and sent an email saying I would prefer to do this face to face and have heard nothing since. Then my wife took the extra step and called eBay and gave the name and email address and was told that person is not registered as a seller. Of course, if it turns out to somehow be on the up and up I will post a picture of me with the trailer...
