    Camping in Kifaru Sawtooth Shelter

Courtney and I went to Colorado in late May as volunteers for the AADE 3Gun Shoot, near Como Colorado. We had a great time at the event, and were able to camp for three nights at the beautiful Bar Star Ranch.

Although I had my DD tarp, my buddy, Scott, offered to let us use his Kifaru Sawtooth Shelter. I've wanted to give it a good look for awhile, so this was a perfect opportunity! We had a variety of conditions over the three nights of camping and were able to put it to the test! I created a short video with some of my impressions.

At $800 for the basic shelter (no liner or stove), is this a shelter you would consider?

Kifaru is great stuff , I have some of their gear for my elk hunts but 800$ for a tent is off the charts high . I have a mountainsmith lt designed by the same guy who owns Kifaru and it’s a bad *** tent and it was only 120$ .

I love my kifaru 8 man tipi, they make some great stuff. Might be expensive but its by far worth the money IMO, most people don't realize how great a floorless shelter with the ability to have a stove and many other accessories is until they have used one. My brother and I have been trying to decide between a 4 man tipi or the sawtooth for several trips we have planned over the next few years.

Michael, where do we order the texasbowhunter firstlite gear?

I've been trying to find a used 12 or 16 man tipi for sometime now. Seek outside also makes similar products that are a little cheaper. For the sqft to weight ratio, a tipi is hard to beat.

After watching the video Michael I just don't see $800 dollars worth of value there. I have been using an oversized 2 man tent by Sierra Designs for years and like it a lot. While you cannot stand up in it, you can definitely be on your knees without your head hitting the roof.
If the cost of this was about $200 dollars I think it would be worth having in your pack but not at the $800 dollar price point.

...and we complain about why everything is outsourced to China now!

US labor and materials ain't cheap!

I run the TUT with CS stove, I’d would for sure run the sawtooth if I was looking for a bigger more winter worthy shelter especially if I hunted past September much.

My only complaint is I wish I had a bigger stove, burn time is limited.

Why do you want a floorless shelter? I dont know about these and have always camped at the lake, but have always had a tent with a floor. So Im curious.
