Putting in a new pool and the wife wants one. Just wondering how well they work. Thanks in advance

I have a friend with a chiller on his pool, it was not cheap and just an add on sale for him. He and his wife are dentists, lol. They ran his geothermal and it makes a difference in the late summer. I know there is one at the Hampton Inn in Uvalde and it sure is nice during Dove Season.
I would think you need a smaller pool for it to be effective though.

I have been looking at this recently too. It seems that the one of the "heater" options is a "heat pump". Heat pumps can do both cooling and heating by reversing the flow of refrigerant. If they are similar to home heat pumps I would guess that they could handle the load, it might just take more time to get the desired temps. Maybe, just maybe if they are efficient enough it might be be somewhat more economical compared to gas?
I would love to hear some real world experience if anyone has any.

can any of you guys who have a heat pump for heating and cooling mine chiming in as to what you think that it costs to operate it? (additional electric cost per month)
My thoughts are as long as its not terrible cost wise that it is well worth it because it would extend the swimming season by 2-3 months I would guess?

We have several with evaporative chillers but regular gas heaters.
I think I’d go that route of electric heat pump

Even if the only gas option you had was propane? I ask because usually heat pumps are fairly efficient... I even read recently that they are on par with gas, and depending on gas/electric prices can be even more efficient than gas counterparts.... again though... I tend to not believe everything on the internet and that’s why I am curious and wanting to ask guys like you who have actual experience.
