    Thermostat with remote sensor

The ac zone with my daughters room has all the extra bedrooms. Hers is the only one occupied and we keep her door closed for noise. Would like to install a thermostat with a sensor for her room so I can set the temp in there and other rooms can be what they are. Do these work that way? Best brand of so?

We have Ecobee 4 thermostats with sensors. They work pretty good for this. Right now I need to change the batteries in the sensors

Edited: May have misunderstood. If you already have a zoning system and you just want the daughters bedroom to be the master control then yea just move the tstat over there.

Thanks. I will have to adjust the zoning a bit, which im comfortable with but will ask if I get in over my head. I'm basically going to tie into another zone, just want the temp set off bedroom area. Wife doesn't want the tstat in her room, but I do see where that would be better.

If you want that room to be the main control area, that's where the thermostat needs to be. The sensors for the ecobee relay the temp and occupancy of a remote room but the it still runs by where the thermostat is

There are a lot of stats that can use a remote sensor. Pretty common in commercial to have the stats where no one can mess with them, and sensors in the conditioned area. If you cannot get wire there, you will have to use a wireless one. I know with Honeywell stats you select what you want the remote to do in the setup. I am not sure if they have wireless though.

Sounds like the real problem is you don't get enough air into the room with the door closed. You could add a return to her room, and get the air properly balanced.
Airflow balance is one of the most important things for whole house comfort.

Real dance is right now she’s zoned with my room. I want her 3-5 degrees warmer in winter or summer. She’s 2.5 and doesn’t like to be under covers. I like to sleep cold

You can add a VVT in the duct serving her room and control it with it's own tstat. VVT is is just a proportional damper that controls the amount of air deliver to that particular supply register. They work pretty good.

Ecobee's 3 lite and higher level units can use room sensors

Not sure what kind of zoning system you have, but if you have an extra zone on the board that is not being used. You could zone her room separate from all others. Or if you don’t have an extra zone avalible, you could tie one of the other zones in with an existing zone and separate her room ( and the spare rooms) but you would still want the stat in her room. Not sure why your wife don’t want a stat, in the girls room as that is what you are trying to control. Stats now have a “ lock out” that you could program so she would not be able to fiddle with it with out the code. ( you set for it). Even if you use a remote in that room what ever stat. or remote calls all rooms are going to get heat or cooling ( that are on that zone) So you would have to turn the cooling way up on the stat in summer, way down in winter, so her remote would “ control” that zone. Still don’t see the differance if it’s a remote in her room or stat. Stat would make it far easier if you ask me.

Fair points all around. 3 zone board, so all full. Plan is to utilize the upstairs gameroom zone as we are fine if it is warmer in summer and cooler in winter than main living space. Thought is she may want to change rooms down the road, and don't want to fully exclude guest space. Ordered an ecobee with two sensors. Cover hallway and both bedrooms. Should keep any space from being overly hot or cold. I'll report back after install and a few test days
