I am a dentist and pull a lot of wisdom teeth. I do advise my kids and some adults to get them out. The reason I advise to get them out are many
1. If they can’t keep them clean or it is be difficult to keep them clean. This is the majority of people.
2. They need braces
3. I have a significant older patient base. The number of seniors that have their wisdom teeth still in their mouth is rare. It’s difficult to keep them 70+ years without a problem.
So if you take them out when you are young you don’t have to pull them when you are older. And the longer you wait to remove them the more difficult the procedure and longer the healing time.
4. I have seen many people end up with a root canal and crown on their second molars( the ones right in front of wisdom teeth) because of the wisdom tooth. Had they removed their wisdom teeth they would have never had a problem with their second molar. And a virgin tooth without a filling or any work has a much higher chance of lasting their lifetime.
Hope that helps
