    Cow dogs

Anyone raise em? I need one. Or two. Need help pushing cattle when I work. Tired of waiting on help to show up and I’d rather do it myself anyway.

A good cow dog is almost priceless. Good luck on your search. I can ask around. Do you have any preference in breed. We have always had Blue Heelers but know a cattle guy and he uses Border Collies.

I can ask my grandfather, I know he had an interested buyer on his border collie pup that is already trained and already working cattle. Not sure if the pup sold.

Basically anything except a heeler. I’ve been bit by about 5 dogs, and heelers were 4. I have trust issues with them haha. I was thinking border collie but Idk how they’d be with Brahmans and f1’s. Gotta be a little rough

There is a guy in the classified section with some free black mouth curt female pups for free. I think he lives in Cleveland Tx

Depends what kinda dog you want. Curs, catahoulas and the like are bay style dogs that work more in the front of cattle. Heelers, border collies and the like work them from behind mostly. With wild or raunchy cattle I have seen curs work the best. But no one sells good finished dogs. And pups are difficult to train without older dogs, but it can be done. I’d find some good proven black mouth cur pups if you can’t find older dogs

I have a few buddies that cowboy for a living. I’ll ask em what they think I should get. Didn’t really want to get bay dogs but it is what it is

You are either going to get Bay Dogs, Heel Dogs, or Catch Dogs.....

I got bulldog pups if you need to catch a Rank One LOL

But sounds like you need Border Collies

I have a border collie and shes a machine.. I dont work cows with her anymore but she was easy to train .. we used her to keep the cows out of the yard and to help in the pen.. we had curs for baying and penning.. you have to use them everyday or they turn into just dogs..

Heelers are good but hard driven and can a lot of times be too rough on cattle especially cattle that are prone to be a bit wild. Border collie, Australian shepherd, Lacy, Catahoula are easier to control. Even a Kelpie is good but better for sheep.

cant help you finding one, but it reminded me of one of the coolest things ive ever seen. i was out a few summers ago checking cameras and saw that one of my cow guys cows had jumped the fence and was down in the bottom where i hunt, about 70 acres of trees and brush. i texted him and he said he would be right over. i met him and his collie walking down to the fence and the dog runs off in the woods, i said something about it and he says "she'll be back in a little bit, shes getting that cow." ok, sure she is.

we stand there talking for about 10 minutes and danged if that dog doesnt come back pushing that cow right across the creek and through the gate. he said "see ya later" and she jumped in the truck with him and they went back home.

                          i was amazed

Look up hangin tree cowdog. That will be my next choice.

I currently have a blue heeler (too rough and hard headed plus a little sketchy sometimes) as well as a 1/2 border 1/2 Australian shepherd. (She is awesome and listens well )

I'd recommend a black mouth cur, my green screen name for a reason. They'll do more than just cattle for you. Guy that runs hundreds if not thousands of cattle down near our place in Jackson county seems to like them and he has same breeds as you, brahman and tiger stripes.
