Don't know as I'd call it a "trans-Pecos rat snake", but it for sure is a rat snake.. maybe a trans-Buffalo Bayou Rat Snake... Bout the lightest color phase one I've ever seen, but with those markings no doubt it's a rat snake.

Yeppers. I was at a cook off last weekend and a fearless knight was chasing one down. He jabbed it once with a piece of square tubbing and took about 3 inches off of the beast. Once I got close enough the fearless warrior asked me what kind of snake it was...I told him it was a tailless rat snake. Thankfully he backed down and let it be before the serpent killed us all.

The ol interwebs say its a white sided black ratsnake. It is cool as hell looking. I have never seen so many different colored ratsnakes until I started looking for this one. There are some really pretty ones out there.

With the different color phase from what is typically seen, sometimes you have to look at the scales on the head to correctly identify snakes.

Off-hand, I'm not going to guess but that is a few hundred miles east of the range of a Trans-Pecos ratsnake.

It had to be a pet that was let loose or escaped . It’s a morph corn snake for sure .
