Replacing Rainsoft Water Filter and Softener help?

I bought a new system in 2008. I was told it needs to be replaced now and the quote is around 5k.

I was thinking about replacing it myself.

Anyone have any suggestions for outside systems I could use?

Stay away from the “console” models where everything is in one tank. If you are in town and there is chlorine in the water, get a dual-bed with the carbon filter built in or a separate carbon tank in front of the softener. This will remove the chlorine first and extend your resin life. (Though you will have to replace the carbon every so often).
Morrison and Nelson make some really great softeners. Not sure what the price is on them wholesale, or if they even sell to non-contractors.

I just got my first quote on Tuesday at 3k I quickly looked into a diy solution. I’m still looking and researching but I think this kit will be what I go with. Watch their YouTube videos, looked pretty easy.

Buy it straight from these guys and install it yourself and save a bundle.

You and I are close to each other. We're in MUD 30. We simply got an activated charcoal filter and skipped the softener. The filter softens it enough for us.
