That kid will be in the woods plenty. They can't hunt all the time though.
Gotta have something to do in da city when it rains.
He has a pellet gun, 243, X Bow , dirt bike , fishing poles, skate board plays football, baseball so he's pretty well rounded.

Don't do it. Later down the road he will still be living at home as an adult.

I don’t think you can get a good computer for 6-700. Could be wrong. My buddy built his for gaming and I think he has about 1500 into it

          x2!

And parents wonder why their kids are the way they are.

          Proof is in the pudding.

I would be very cautious of just turning a 10 year old kid loose with a computer having internet. If he is wanting to play Fortnite which is an internet based game buy him a Nintendo Switch which can travel with you or dock and play it on TV.

My kids both have Chromebooks which they use their school login to get on and there are restrictions set up by the school which will not allow them to get an certain sites

Can't go wrong with any of these choices. Good luck in your search.

While I agree with the Zebco 33 and outside ideas I will provide my $.02 on your actual question - Go here to start - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/all-des...ce%20skuidsaas

I would stay away from the FX CPUs. They are old and while good, they are not as easily upgraded as the Ryzen and Core I models and are literally generations old. The technology has improved greatly on CPUs. The Graphics card should be you first priority. 570 from AMD or 1050 from Nvidia should be your starting point. I would also look for white boxes or someone that knows what they are doing and have them build one. You can get one cheaper that way, but it will come without a warranty. Ibuy and Cyber are good alternatives from the likes of HP and Dell, but there is a reason why they are cheaper. You can PM for those details. For a 10yo, you are in the correct price range. Since you might want to upgrade later - make sure the power supply can handle the load of an improved GFX card and the mother board is compatible for next gen CPU. How do I know all this - I work for one of the companies I listed above. I'm not technical nor a gamer, I'm just a sales guy that knows a bit.

Some are calling it piling on but there is some truth to it.

It all depends on your kid. I have one who just turned 15.

He likes to hunt and fish. The boy can out work me and loves it. He has a XBOX One and plays it sometimes at night. This is about the right amount of time in my opinion.

I also have a 12 yr old who is not a fan of hunting but likes fishing. Anytime the word work is mentioned he is out, no matter what. He does play sports and is in great shape physically.

However, he would play his XBOX non stop if we did not say anything. I used to find him up playing at midnight after we thought he was in bed.

So... His XBOX has been in my closet for the past 2 months.

I believe like anything these game systems and the games played are additive much like smoking, drinking, driving fast... Again, it all depends on the person.

So I would take this into consideration when deciding about moving forward. You certainly can police it but I personally think the kid should be able to know when its appropriate to play and when they need to stop without being told.

My 2 cents from someone that has been there and done that.

To your original question I think I would choose the Play Station system over the XBOX if going with a gaming system. Most of the kids I know have PS and prefer it.

Gaming Computers are a whole different ball game as the options are endless. I would go to a specialty shop and see what they say as those guys are gamers. I would then take that info and shop around to get the best deal.

                    Good Luck!

He plays on Xbox one now.
Some days he's on it more than others, but if I say fish, hunt or dirt bike he's really too go.
I appreciate all the input and I don't take offense to it I know it's all in fun with a little advise thrown in[emoji3577]

Save that $700 and invest it for his future. Or on a hunting or fishing trip.

He will get alot more use out of it.

But some parents can't say no, and don't want to hurt their kids feelings.

You'll need to spend that on the processor and graphics card alone for him to be competitive (and not have screen lag)! Just closely monitor his time.

You can buy/build one that will be decent in that range. Some people go crazy with overclocking and water cooling, etc. It is very easy to spend what some have listed above.

Realistically the i7 is a great gaming processor and can be found in most desktop models. Find one with the i7 or even an i5 a few hundred under your max price. Then buy the maximum amount of memory it will support on Amazon along with a decent video card and you will be set, a good video card (GeForce RTX) is around 350 but you can get one that will be nice for half that. At that point lag will depend on your broadband provider and the ping to the gaming server.

                            Hope this helps.

Buy him the parts and have him put it together. That way you are investing in his future and getting what he wants!
