    Deveining shrimp

    Did about 2 and a half pounds tonight, anybody have any quick tips or tricks for making it a little quicker? Those brown gulf shrimp are awesome. But peeling and deveining is a pain.

    A regular dinner fork under the top back of the shell works pretty good. Push it all the way to the tail tip and the shell comes right off.

          A metal dinner fork works better than that plastic tool. Same principal just a more stable material.

                Give me that tool all day long...I have been know to clip an 1" off the end of it and its plenty stable.


                Pulls the shells and everything. Some are making them thicker at the tip these days anyway and you don't need to trim off the end.


                For $2.99 it's a great tool.

                      I make my wife do it

                      On a serious note. No idea how to do it fast.

                      We just peal and use a knife to devain. Goes quick.

                      What was the shrimp count?

                      40-50s?

                        Lol you’re a lucky man, I usually handle the fish and game until it reaches the pan.... they were more like 30-40. Nice sized shrimp. Made one heck of a creole

                          A pencil! I grew up on a shrimp boat and I promise if you run a sharpened pencil inside the shell and push it until you reach the tail it will amaze you how fast it goes

                            I use a boning knife. Splits it nicely and gets the vein out at the same time; quick rinse under faucet as I go.
