    Sounds like the Ford Ranch

The Ford Ranch is close to Menard and it does have quite a few birds but the huge winter nesting roost are typically over running water in this area. I am told that the temperatures over the water are a little warmer and the water makes for larger trees. The roost just east of Menard along the San Saba River used to have 1,500 birds or more in winter but not sure what they estimate today. This roost is similar to the one at 700 Springs in that it is about a mile and a half long.
I feel that some of the birds from this roost migrate to the Ford Ranch in the spring.

Over grazing is hindering turkeys and quail just as much as wild hogs.

I’ve hunted a ranch like that. You had to work your azz off to kill one...and seriously there was just too many hens. Hard to compete with the real thing!

There is no livestock on this ranch so overgrazing is not a problem. It is going to be interesting to see what impact the overpopulation of hogs has on ground nesting birds. My prediction is that the turkey populations will suffer.
