As stated above many different ways to look at this question. You biggest issue will be getting the tags especially if you are just now starting that process. It will be next to impossible to draw many of them with this late of a start.

To get it done it will take money and lots of it. Money can get you to the front of the line with Gov. tags.

Those of you who are privy to hunting out of state, hunting different species, and the difficulty of getting a tag for certain species, how would you rank the top 3 most difficult animals to get? I dont have the knowledge to make a legit list, but my hand grenade effort at it would be:

            -Bighorn sheep
            -Mountain goat
            -Dall sheep

At 32, Im only now beginning to immerse myself in the world of drawing tags for other states, and it doesnt look pretty for the aforementioned species. So how would you rank the top 3 most difficult DIY, free range animals?
Yea, would like to do something similar. I would agree, both getting tags, then actually killing a Bighorn or a Dall Sheep would be at the top of the list, for difficulty. Probably Dall Sheep at the top of the list. For years, I wanted to hunt Bighorn, Desert Bighorns and Dall Sheep. Kind of given up on those ideas. I am pretty sure, if you are not rich, now days, or a poacher, you are not going to put a bullet in any of those three.
I plan on trying for some out of state mule deer eventually, then elk and maybe a moose some day. Mule deer is still at the top of my list to hunt, but elk would be nice also.

Sorry I didn't make it more clear. The question was intended to about tag difficulty. Like the dall sheep can't be done without family in Alaska. That's got to be top on the list.

I don't need a trophy class animal. DIY & free range is trophy enough for me. I just want to experience of hunting the species.

Yeah if your looking at tag difficulty the three bighorn subspecies in the lower 48 are going to be the hardest to draw. Dall is a easy to get tag. Just the fact a NR can’t hunt them without a guide is the biggest problem.

You really dont need to keep saying free range as 98% of what you are going after are only found free range. 100% of them are free range if you are drawing a tag. Like I said above you are going to have to buy some tags for certain animals or go through an outfitter to get some of these done. Not trying to rain on your parade just trying to be realistic. Dont believe you can DIY polar bear. You will need a villager in order to get tag and guide you. There a few like this. While it is feasible you will need a giant bank account to get it done. You cant do it without trying though.

There's a reason I up and moved to Alaska year before last.

If all you are interested in is the experience, then there are easier ways to draw some of those tags. Can also try to farm yourself out as a packer/glasser for someone who has drawn one of the tags you are waiting on.

I aint never been drawed for a hunt, been applying in New Mexico for a long time. Never got drawed in Texas either. Reckon you could say any type of draw tag would be a trophy for me.

I have to pay my way unfortunately.

I would say a over 150 inch low fence real world east texas buck is about as hard as it gets ( not counting the climbing mountains or middle of nowhere treks just the killing part !) Lol
