    Quick Question ON hunting law

What is the minum amout of land you have to own to hunt in texas? Out of the city limits? Also, if you live in the county can you toss corn over your fence?

I not hunt Texas, but live here.

    Thanks for any info

i dont beleive there is any minimum on the amount of land you have to own. as for tossing corn over the fence? you better hope you have a nice neighbor. THAT would tick us off at our ranch. no need for it. throw corn on your land, ill throw it on mine, we both kill deer.

In Texas you do not have the right to trail a deer across the fence unless you have permission. So if you dont have a good relation with your neighbor it could make for a long season.I dont think throwing corn across the fence or hunting the fenceline is "building bridges"!

          revise the question

I will not be hunting where I live. I hunt in Kansas, only because that is where my land is. I live close to a big town in a neighbor hood, but it is not in the city limits. Can I throw corn over my fence for the deer? I have already contacted the Texas Parks and Wildlife but I was just checking to see if anyone knew. I was wondering about about the amount of land, because I met a guy in a near by county that owns 50 acres and he said that I can come hunt hogs. In Kansas you must own 80 acres to hunt. I have searched all over the Texas parks and wildlife website for the answers but can not find them.

          Thanks

          and thanks for the welcome.

Baiting deer is not illegal in Texas. If it is your property, I have no idea why it would be illegal.

You can throw corn wherever you want! I assume you are just wanting to do a little deer watchin'

Check with TPWD. I think a law was passed in 2007 that says you cannot feed within 200 yards of a boundry fence or something like that. May not be 200 yds but you sure as heck can't throw bait across your fence.

I don't know of any law that says your corn "can't" land on another's property. There are laws about shooting onto another's property and there are trespass laws. There is no minimum size tract of land required for hunting, as far as I know, but refer back to trespass comment before hunting a 1 acre plot...
And to be neighborly, I wouldn't put a feeder on a fence line, even if I wasn't hunting it, unless I had a good relationship with said neighbor.
Talk to your neighbors and you just may get the OK to track a wounded deer or even a chance to hunt. Never know unless you talk...

                  Finally, welcome aboard!!

After speaking with our local game warden last year he stated that there is not a minimum land requirement for hunting as far as the state is concerned. The only guidline with that is your projectile bullet, pellets, or arrow cannot land outside of your property with out the other landowner's permision. However, if you are in the city limits, your city may and probably does have an ordinance against using a firearm or at least an ordinance on how much land you must have to hunt.

It is against the law to:
hunt in a subdivision with lots 10 acres or less in an unincorporated area of a county if the commissioners court, by order, prohibits the discharge of a firearm or the use of archery equipment in such subdivisions. (Contact local county clerk and ask about 235.022, Local Government Code.) Taken off of the TPWD website
