Mobile Home Porch: Steel Purlin Deck/Span Tables

When we purchased my grandfathers property the wife and bought a mobile home to place on the property until we decided what to do with regards to the permanent home. My plan is to use the mobile home as a rental and I'm wanting to build a covered carport and deck along the front just to make it a little more appealing to renters.

I despise building stuff out of wood and I want to do the deck structure out of metal posts and use C-purlins for my deck joists. Does anyone have any span tables for purlin?

The plan is to make the deck 12ft deep and run it about 24ft down the length of the front of the house. Decking will run perpendicular to the long axis of the deck.

Mine is about that size. 24x12 on one side and 20x12 on the other.

Posts are 8' apart with 4 runs of purlin 36" centers. You can dance on it

            4" purlin will span 10'
            6" will span 20'
            8" will span 25'
            10" will span 30'

Wouldnt suggest going over 10" at that point might as well use beam.

In your case I would use 8" purlin and connect to the house with a C purlin, come out the 12' with open c. Only need two posts that way. Or if you dont want to connect to the house, just put SQT up against it the house.

Your Cs need to be on a 4-5' centers. So on 12' wide I would figure 4 purlin at 25'. Import purlin comes in 20, 25, and 30' lengths. It is much cheaper cutting a foot off rather than having domestic ran at 24'.

I worked in sales at Mueller for 3 years, just recently got a new job.

              4" wide and 3x3 tubing

My purlin is flat due to a slight miscalculation of post height. Best 1600 bucks I've ever spent at the house

Found this thread searching the web.

Did you ever build your deck with purlins?

I am looking in doing the same thing and wanted to see how it came out.
