    Anyone ever march DCI?

So my 15 year old just got offered a contract to play trumpet with The Troopers. Any advise for a parent about to send their kid to march across the country for the summer. The schedule looks pretty grueling. Also what worked for your kids fundraising projects? What is something that is an essential must have to survive the summer?

I saw the thread but it was already closed and I couldn't comment to ask question.

Our son marched for the blue knights and absolutely loved it. He loved it so much that he moved to Indianapolis, where they have the national finals, and teaches it down there. The first week he was gone, he was ready to come home. It's a tough, groeling schedule, but we made him stick it out and he was grateful we made him suck it up. He actually worked part time and payed his own way through. Some tips would be to get get their schedule and you can mail them care packages. Snacks are the best. They are also traveling on buses and they sleep at school gyms, so make sure they have a good twin inflatable mattress with a good air pump and emergency patches. When they stop at towns, they take them to laundromats to wash their clothes, so take him to one and show them how they work and how to do laundry properly. They all carry water jugs they use daily, so make sure he knows he needs to wash it often (our sons was disgusting and I had to buy him a new one). And get him a tough suitcase. It will go through hell. Pack him duct tape. Trust me. And make sure they always have money for expenses. When they get a "free day" it's nice for them to have money to go out and have fun. They are not allowed to have caffeine while there, but on their free days they go and enjoy a coke and junk food. Let me know if there's anything else you need answers for

My wife just infored me that our son teaches for the troopers. Matt Rivera. I asked him what he should pack and he said to make sure he packs 3 plain white shirts, a couple of pairs of rehearsal shorts, 3 weeks worth of socks and underwear, good quality running shoes, and of course the water jug.

Also, a small bus box with snacks that are high in calories but low sugar, protein bars, and pop tarts. Also, a separate bottle water for the bus with Gatorade powder to rehidrate at night to get back the electrolytes. Gloves if he's in the horn line. And a hat and sun screen!

Thank You so very much for all the information. Wow what a small world that your son is teaching with The Troopers. They will be together all summer .He signed up for a Trooper Camp in December but was not able to make it because the Boston Crusaders had a camp at his school and our kids got to attend for free. He auditioned just to get feedback and Boston gave him a call back . He went to Florida Boston Crusader camp and they told him he was still to young. He attended the next Trooper camp and fell in love with The Troopers family. He can't wait to go on this adventure and live his dream. My son is Alex Mitchell he plays the trumpet . Again all that information is going to help me to get him ready. I hope to join the Texas leg of the tour to volunteer .
