We looked at building a living space inside but it would take up floor space and is was quite expensive. We did however build out a bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. That alone cost us $3500+ you build 100% ourselves. But we are sure glad we did it. 9 months of RV showers and toilet use would suck.

Make sure you put in your well and septic system right away and pipe in hook ups for the camper. We did water, electric and sewer hook ups both inside and out. We have a 16x50 lean to that we will Park the camper under when the house is done.

If you have no desire to keep that camper after your house it built buy you a cheaper used one and sell it when you’re done.

What are the dimensions on that barndo? Any pics of the kitchen or any other pics at all?
      Sure appreciate it.

          Building was 32’ x 65’, minus the 8” purlin and 2”x4” walls inside living is 30’ x 63’

60k is about what we spent on what will eventually be an office, but with a bath and a kitchen area.

                  House is still under construction....

That does or does not include the cost of the shop?

My wife and I did it back in the late '90's but it was done over a couple years and I did every thing myself. It was half of a 30x50 with a small bath, kitchen, bed room and living room. It became my hobby shop after the house was built With the kitchen, all fish and game are processed there. We lived in it 3 years.

We did. Our 2 kids started out in private school, we bought land that we planned to build on when things were right.

Next thing we knew our oldest was in the last grade offered but the private school and we for sure did not want them in our current school district.

We rushed to get a well, power run and build a 40x60 shop with small apartment.

When we were forced to move for the start of school we had a dried in shop (built by us, the 2 of us), a well, a camper and no electricity.

We made it 3 weeks with the 4 of us living in the camper, on camper holding tanks and a generator to run the camper and another to run the well.

In a couple weeks we had an electric meter set and an apartment finished out in one end of the shop that consisted of a bathroom/shower, a kitchen and a living area. We all still slept in the camper.

This was planned to be a short term arrangement, then we decided to ditch the initial home plans we had selected.

By the time we selected new plans, went trough plan changes and actually got the house built we wound up living in our apartment/camper nearly 3 years.

                          Was it a struggle? Yep!
                          Was it worth it? Yep!

Our kids were young which made it easier though.

Funny thing is we never had another desire to camp again until this showed up. Now we look forward to our 2 person camping trips!

does not include the cost of the barn that is attached....I had the guy that built it (BrettC on here) extend the metal roof out over the area that would be the living quarters/office, then I built the walls, poured the slab and finished out the inside.

I didn't keep really accurate numbers, but the finish out was somewhere between 50 and 60. The numbers got a little fuzzy when I wired the barn and the LQ at the same time, then added some more concrete in the barn, built a couple of lofts, ran plumbing and septic that will eventually tie in to the main house, added a patio.....it all adds up pretty quick.

At the time, we thought we might stay here for a while, but now we have another ranch with 140 acres farther out from town, and are looking to make that an even bigger place eventually.

                              Scope creep happens.
