Things to do in North Carolina

We are about to leave to head to Jacksonville, NC to see my daughter and son-n-law. He is a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune. We will be there until next Friday...What is there to do or see near there?

Biltmore estate in Asheville..... Iconic in the Forestry world and also largest privately owned house. If you have time...

Downtown Wilmington is very neat as well.

Don’t have any useful suggestions for you since I never really strayed far from Fayetteville while I was stationed there, but North Carolina is beautiful. Love the scenery and all the trees. Y’all should have a good time.

A couple memorials and military museum. Boat trips. Too far away for many attractions, but maybe hit them on the way in or out. Nascar Hall of Fame in Charlotte. Billy Graham library in Charlotte. Biltmore estate Castle in Asheville. Train museums in other train things near Spencer. Have fun.

Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington was awesome.

I don't know how many of the Camp Lejeune "local attractions" have gotten back up their feet since the hurricane last year but here are some thoughts:

If you're into Pepsi they have a neat little museum in New Bern along with some good restaurants close by, King's Barbeque in Kinston has been in business for over 75 years and was my family's favorite place to eat when we were stationed there (just suck it up and pay for the buffet, it's worth it). Battleship NC in Wilmington is good, but the trip will be better if you spend a little time downtown afterwards.

The Biltmore should be incorporated on your way home, there are plenty of neat things do see and do in town just watch out for the hipsters! I'd recommend you go through Raligh/Winston Salem on your way over as the drive is really scenic and there are plenty of things to see/do along the way.
